“The typical reasons of faucet dripping include corrosion, mineral deposit on the internal parts, or defective gaskets, o-rings, or washers. Nonetheless, most faucets that leak can be fixed easily by homeowners if they have the right tools. Budget Damage

Apart from plumbing and eventual water damage, faucet leaks can also damage a family’s budget. ER Plumbing did the math for its readers.

“If your home has one faucet leaking at a (very typical) rate of ten drips per minute, that one faucet is wasting three liters of water per day. That’s 90 liters per month and 347 gallons of water per year.”

Do something about it

The Website This Old House suggested some ways to troubleshoot a dripping faucet problem.

“A single-handled cartridge faucet is easy to disassemble. Just pry off the decorative cap on the handle, remove the handle screw, tilt the handle back and pull it off. If there’s a threaded retaining clip holding the cartridge in place, use needle-nose pliers to remove it, and then pull the cartridge straight up. In Richard’s case, only the cartridge needed replacing. If the O-rings are cracked, remove the spout and cut off the old O-rings using a utility knife. After coating the new O-rings with nontoxic, heat-proof plumber’s grease, reassemble the unit.”
