When water damage hits, one of the home fixtures it usually hits first is the home carpeting. And unfortunately, for massive water damage problems, this can be troublesome, in fact it can render the whole carpeting unusable.

But what can one do when the carpet becomes wet with water damage?

Service Ratings Website Angie’s List came up with some suggestions on what to do once water damage hits a household carpet. Check over here

“Steam clean all carpets to properly sanitize and deodorize. Typically, water-damaged carpet padding must be replaced. Replacing just the padding is much less expensive than having to re-carpet your entire home.”

Dealing with water damaged carpet

The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification also came out with guidelines on the steps to take once water damage hits a home carpet system. They emphasized that nothing will take the place of expert handling when it comes to dealing with a water damaged carpet.

“The most important step is to contact a specialized technician that is trained to handle this type of situation. When a company is found, make sure that that business is associated with the Institute of Inspection Cleaning, Restoration and Certification, or the IICRC. The IICRC is a non-profit organization that sets the standards for the industry. This non-profit also provides certification to technicians. IICRC-certified technicians are highly skilled and know what to do when flooring in a home is in need of repair.”
